Impact – What Past Volunteers Say About Autism Program

"Volunteering with autism kids in Nepal with Third Eye Volunteer Foundation Nepal was life-changing. I am OT student from USA, I helped 2 kids learn to eat independently in 4 weeks. The staff trained me well, host family was like second family. I saw real progress." – Ethan, USA, Summer 2026, 4 weeks

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

In Nepal, 1 in 100 children is diagnosed with autism, but there are only 3 government centers for autism in whole Nepal. Most autism children stay home, no school, no therapy, because families cannot afford private care ($200/month vs average income $100/month).

At Third Eye Volunteer Foundation Nepal, since 2018 we started a small Autism and Special Needs Childcare Center in Banasthali  in partnership with local parents' group. We support 15 autism kids aged 4-16 years with daily care, basic education, and therapy support.

We need international volunteers for 2026 and 2027 to help these kids — because one volunteer can change one child's daily life.

This is NOT orphanage tourism. This is a special needs childcare program run by parents and our trained Nepali staff. Our volunteers assist, not replace, local teachers. We follow strict child protection and autism care ethics.

  • No government support for autism families in rural Nepal
  • Private autism therapy costs Rs 25,000/month ($190) – 80% families cannot afford
  • Autism kids face social stigma – hidden at home
  • Our center provides free daycare, but we have only 3 local teachers for 25 kids – ratio 1:8, need 1:3 for autism
  • Your help as volunteer = 1:1 attention, sensory play, speech support, daily care

When you volunteer with Third Eye Volunteer Foundation Nepal, you help autism kids learn to communicate, eat independently, play with others, and parents get 4 hours free to work.

No, but patience needed. We train you on Day 1 – sensory play, communication, behavior support. If you are OT, speech therapy, special education, psychology student – you can bring more skills. Many volunteers had no experience before.

Yes. Our center is daycare, 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM, with trained Nepali staff. We have 1 staff for 3 kids plus volunteers. No violence risk – kids are 4-16, mild to moderate autism. We teach you safe handling.

Only with parents' written consent and staff permission, and never show faces on social media without blur. We follow UNICEF child protection. You can take photos of activities, materials, your own experience. We have consent for photos/videos used on this page.

No. Minimum 2 weeks, recommended 4 weeks. Autism kids need routine, bonding, trust. 1 week confuses them. For 1 week, choose teaching program on our main site

Autism center open all year, even during school holidays – because parents need daycare year-round. Best times: Spring 2027 (March-May) and Autumn 2027 (Sept-Nov) – pleasant weather. Summer 2027 (June-Aug) also good – center less crowded.

Yes. Most volunteers do 4 weeks autism + 12 days Annapurna Base Camp Trek or Everest Base Camp Trek. Trek arranged by our sister company Nepal Spiritual Trekking. Same team.
